Bak Pak Skimmer Air Valve???

Hi,

I am trying to determine how open the air valve on the Bak Pak Skimmer for a 55g FOWLR tank should be. If I happen to open the air valve all the way it makes so much noise and if i close it it makes less noise. I am wondering if i should leave it open and deal with the noise or if it should be slightly closed to get the best skimming.

The live rock and tank has been up for two years, everything else is solid.

I've had a bakpak on my 55 for almost 2 yrs now, I close the valve all the way down then back it off about a 1/4 turn. It doesn't pull out the thick/nasty, but my bioload is light.
