Got a yellow tang in hypo right now, has about 2.5 weeks left. Doing well, eating fine. I noticed that I have a bunch of brown algae growing on the bare bottom and the pvc pipe that is for cover is coated pretty good too. Is this good/bad/indifferent? I was changing out some water daily until I hit the 14ppt, now its weekly. Just the 1 fish in a 30g.

Nothing magic about water changes in any QT .. hypo or otherwise. Most do frequent large water changes to insure that ammonia levels are zip and that water quality is up to snuff. With a hypo tank your 1.009 SG is roughly 1/3 1.025 std reef water combined with 2/3'rd FW.

Not sure about the brown algae ... in general alga is kinda unusual in QT's because of the frequent water change and nominal lighting - perhaps your FW has some silica feeding diatoms or your not changing water as frequently as others .. probably no big deal. You do need to focus on ammonia and PH.
