hi, what size pump is good for a scwd in a 4 foot tank?
also ,does it make a difference if the scwd is under the tank just above the sump, instead of at the top behind it?

cheers
ben

I was using that thing before buying my wavysea. I guess you just run your return from your sump through it. it works pretty good. I have a 5ft long 150 gallon. I had it hook up to my mag 18 with chiller , uv light attached to it.

I think that depends on how strong you want the current to be. I was using 2 of them. 1 of them on an mag 18 with all the stuff connected to it. and the other one is mag 12 go straight back to the tank. My mag 12 was actually pushing more water back and it was creating pretty good wave.

SCWDs will really kill the flow on a flow pump (like a Mag). A pump that handles head pressure well is good to use. Eheim 1260/1262 would be good.

Using an Ehiem 1262 on my 90 and it's doing a good job. Everything moves, but nothing is getting blasted.

Thanks

What size plumbing are you using on your Ehiem 1262?

Thanks

using pacific imports pc 40 about 1100gph but the scwd do kill that down to about 650 gph

Is it okay to run this with a powerhead inside a 75g tank? Thanks.

Thanks. Any suggestion on which PH to use and it won't generate too much heat? The MJ 1200 is probably too small especially flow-rate will be cut.

I've been using a ViaAqua pump 4900 with a SCWD for over 2 years now. No problems.

I have a scwd in my tank upside down.

I'm using 1" pvc, but connections in/out of pump and sqwd are 3/4.

I used a scwd on a 4 ft tank hoping to get a good back and forth motion across the legnth of the tank. It didn't work because as flow through the scwd increases, the switching rate increases. So, with a big pump (1200 gph) I got short bursts of fast moving water that would go about 2 ft and with a smaller pump (700 gph) I got longer bursts of slow moving water that would go about 2 ft. I wound up using 2 scwds on one 700 gph rated pump which gave me good randomn currents, and fair flow.

I always plumbed my scwds above the tank. Seems to me this would give a better flow rate, but I'm not sure about this.

ive tried it on my closed loop pump at 3200l/h and, as you say geobau , it changes too fast with a pump thats any good. ill stick to the seio and the closed loop by themselves i think. im thinking of getting a seaswirl when they become available here in the uk.
