I have a GE reverse osmosis under my kitchen sink. This was the only option for me at the time due to the wife wanting an RO system for drinking and cooking, so I got the other end of the deal and was able to use this for my small reef tanks. My question is this?

Are all RO membranes the same, build wise? I mean will an RO membrane bought at lowes fit my homedepot bought RO GE unit? Also are the filter cartridges the same as well? They are all pretty generic right?

Thanks
Spankey

This is the one that fits my small system

Give Walter a call at airwaterice (http://www.airwaterice.com/). They sell GE as well as other systems and have top notch Dow FilmTec membranes. He can tell you based on your current setup what would work as far as replacements go, and would be able to sell you quality replacment parts.

Which GE system do you have?

Ya know what I don't even know. However lowes sold a universal one that worked on whirlpool RO systems and GE systems. I put it in and sure enough its fine.

However I did notice that on the two bottom filters below the RO membrane, the one looked a brownish color and the other one looked brand new???? There was water in the side that looked untouched? Does the water pass thru a prefilter, then the RO and then back thru the other bottom filter? Maybe this is why it looked so clean? The first filter and the membrane removed all the gunk and the last filter is a after product???

Anyone?

Do you see it here? http://www.geappliances.com/smartwater/dw_reverse.htm

In all liklihood, what you have is a sediment filter and a carbon filter in vertical housings, followed by the RO membrane in a horizontal housing above.

Yes, mine is the model GXRM10GBL at the bottom of that page. Its a great unit. Water comes out great and tests right in line. Just don't understand the clean filter in the right vertical stage?

Thanks
