Heya.. I got some tubing that hooked up to my maxijet powerhead to do water changes.. When I got the tubing (from marinedepot) it had a strong chemical smell to it.. Still does in fact after many gallons of water going through it.. Could this be an issue?

I know that these types of plastics or whatnot can have weird smells but just wondering what you all think..

Thanks :)

I doubt it is an issue with respect to problematic chemicals.

Do you have a link to the description of the tubing?

Definately not rotten eggs or ammonia, it was definately a very chemical smell and I guess it could be new plastic but I'm not familiar with what new plastic smells like... I know with my smaller rigid tubing and HDPE containers and stuff I don't really smell anything.. Hmm..

I bought a length of 3/4" hose from a LFS about 2 months ago. It also had a very different, very strong smell. I have a hard time pinpointing the smell and also used the words "chemical smell." I want to say it is close to the smell of curing silicone. I had it in the open in my garage for 2 months = still as strong. When I was cleaning my pumps I also soaked it in the vinegar overnight = still smells. I never had any other hose with that smell. I recently tossed it and bought a new hose.

argh... Maybe I should just goto LFS and buy some tubing and smell it before i buy it.. wouldn't want anything bad leeching into my water.

thanks!
