Looking to put it on a 18g nano, I know it is big, but the surface film is driving me crazy!
Just wondering if anyone out there has this on a nano and how well it works.

Also, it looks like the surface has two seperated compartments. To make it smaller I was wondering if it would be possible to cut the bubble trap/media chamber off. Just looking for some opinions and ideas

Thanks

I've heard they suck. No direct experience as i use a sump which is fed from an skimming internal overflow.

they suck! use a rio or maxjet to move the water.

What do not like about them? Is it just the size or do just not skim well?

Surface skimmer works great... I'm still getting a ton of micro bubbles though.

Does anyone have a pic of the pre-skimmer in a nano? That would really help me out.

you can use a fluval surface skimmer on a remora. ive heard these work quite nice.

How well do they work? It looks like they could get clogged easily. How big is it?

I can tell a big difference in the amount of micro bubbles in my tank without the surface skimmer box. You have to make sure the exhaust side stays above the water line. You can't really cut one side off because the left hand side (w/ the ph) has two set screws that hold the whole thing onto the skimmer. The other side is the one that helps keep out the micro bubbles. So far, mine has done an excellent job skimming. It goes nuts and has to be turned off every time I feed phyto. I'm very happy w/ mine.

Oh yea, if you do the paper towel mod, it makes them almost completely silent. Sitting next to the tank I can't even hear it most of the time.

It will take up the whole tank on a 18 gallon. :)

I really hope not :( I just took the dive and ordered it from premiumaqautics.com. If it turns out to be that big hopefully I can return it.

I had the skimmer box for the Remora Pro on my 30 gal cube and I hated it. The water level had to be just right or else enough water would not fill it quickly enough. This meant the water would pump into the skimmer faster than it could skim and my pump would run dry until I shut it off and readjusted it.

I hated the remora pro period. I hated it so much I ran for nearly a year without a skimmer until I could get my sump going and get the ASM G3 on the scene.

The funny thing is that my SPS looked better before adding the skimmer than they have since. Luckily things are starting to turn around.

LBCBJ,
what size tank are you running?

My 11 yr old son runs a remora pro with the skimmer box. I think other than the size they are very nice. We mounted the switch for his auto top off in the pump side. It works really well because the ATO system only adds a small amount of water at a time this way.

That is right. I for some reason thought you said it was going on a larger tank. You aren't going to have a lot of room left I don't think. I had the remora pro and that overflow box is larger but my tank was a 38. The only thing that I like about the overflow box was that it covered the pump. It was really ghetto in the way that it held on to the pump. Very bad design IMO.
