ok guys n girls heres my nano picture thread to go with the trilogy of threads im running. im going to try to get every picture i can off this site in this these 3 threads. anyone whos kept up with my 55 gallon thread will know what i mean.

i have this one which is for nano tanks. if you consider your tank a nano post it here :) id love to see them and i already had started a 10 gallon picture thread i didnt carry on to long. but ill link it so you can check it out. if the people who posted in that thread want to they can repost in this thread anyways :) i dont care lol.

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=861282

if you have a normal or average size tank (55 75 90 and others like that) post them in this thread im linking. it is for any tank you consider bigger than a nano but cannot be over 100 gallons. i started this thread as a 55 gallon but im changing it. heres the link it already contains 5 pages of pictures to enjoy :)
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=854938&perpage=25&pagenumber=1

and this one is 100+ theres no cutoff line on how high it can go. that means if you have the money and have managed a 20,000 gallon tank post some pics lol.

Here's my 6 gallon system so far:

http://fourohfour.ath.cx/~sar/nano/PICT0094.JPG
the water is a little dusty looking because I just bought the little LR fragment in the corner today and had to do some rearranging.

http://fourohfour.ath.cx/~sar/nano/PICT0067.JPG
Here is from a couple days ago, before the frag and stuff getting messed up. Crappy picture, I know.. most of them are.

http://fourohfour.ath.cx/~sar/nano/PICT0016.JPG
This guy posed for me once...

http://fourohfour.ath.cx/~sar/nano/PICT0096.JPG
as did this one a couple times.

http://fourohfour.ath.cx/~sar/nano/PICT0018.JPG
I couldn't get this one to pose, he somehow knew I was getting ready to snap the picture and he would dart off.

There is also a green chromis I couldnt keep up with, and 2 hermit crabs and a turbo snail that I could not seem to get ahold of their agent to get photos of. Something about being on vacation and no photo ops.

This is an eclipse system 6, 3 lbs live sand, ~6 lbs live rock, 1 false percula, 1 green chromis, 1 y/t blue damsel, 1 cleaner shrimp, 2 hermit crabs, 1 turbo snail. So far I've had no problems other than my first outbreak of SW ich and the clown not getting along with the chromis for a couple days (oh ya, and when the clown did not like the molly that I had acclimated to it). Now all is well. I eventually plan on getting some star polyps and some other hardy coral...

open for suggestions on good coral for a tank that size.

how often do you do water changes on a tank that size? it looks wonderful. is the clown happy? how longs it been setup for?

feel free to have discussions on the tanks here also. i dont mind the least bit :)

Here's a picture of my 21g from today. Until recently this was a FOWLR, but I've added a few frags and I think I'm on the way to a nice little softy tank. The algae on the rocks is actually a very tiny species of Caulerpa (C. verticillada AFAIK), it's there on purpose ;)

i've had it about 2 1/2 months now i think, I've done 2 changes of about 3/4 gallon each time and test about every 4 days just to be safe since its so small and new.

so far the clown seems pretty good, it swims all over, has its waddle, shimmy, shake thing going on, and is never late for dinner. Of course, neither are any of the other residents :) they love squid and shrimp.

demonboy279
06/14/2006, 08:50 PM
that will be a beautiful softy tank. what is that coral in the top? thats some awesome positioning of the corals. whats the green though? is it macroalgae? its kinda hard to tell by the pic.

what do you have for a cleanup crew?

ACBlinky
06/14/2006, 09:02 PM
Thanks! That's a Fiji yellow leather, Sarcophyton elegans. The green is macro - it's a species of Caulerpa (C. verticillada as far as I know, still looking for confirmation though). It grew off of the neon GSP frag and I've elected to keep it... for now. It's easy to harvest off the rocks when it gets out of hand, so I don't really worry about it taking over.
The CUC is pretty minimal, a few Hawaiian zebra hermits, a trochus snail, a few Astraea snails, some stomatella, dove and collonista snails (welcome hitchhikers) and a couple nassarius. I guess you could count the pistol shrimp as part of the crew, but he's better at making a mess than cleaning up :D

demonboy279
06/14/2006, 10:10 PM
lol sounds like a good cleanup crew. ive got a little bit of caulerpa in my tank as well. hey it helps with water quality and its natural so why not lol as long as its not out of hand it dont look bad.

a fiji yellow leather you say.... i like it!!

WOW! i bet that tank really glows in person. thats a lot of zoas. im not even gonna try to count all the different kinds lol. ive been thinking about getting some zoas for my 55g.

my favorite color is blue so that blue gorg really stands out to me. what species is it?

that yellow and red gorg is wow. lol its bright. thats probably one of the first thing a person notices when they look at your tank.

its beautiful.

is that a hawaiin feather duster? i think thats what mine will look like when it grows. i had 1 catch a ride on a rock into my tank that looks similiar to that. i cant be sure yet because his fathers only spread about as wide as a #2 pencil eraser lol.

the zoas ive been looking at are the ones with a purple center the red around the purple and the green tentacle things. well thats one of the kinds i want lol. you have some of them are they a pretty good choice?

i really like your tank lol.

its just so beautiful i really dont know what to say but WOW!

you know if you ever wanna donate that tank to charity im a great charity foundation HAHAHA! lol all kidding aside you have done a wonderful job with your tank. it actually made me speechless.

i absolutely love it.

come one people dont worry if your tank dont look as great as that one. it will still be appreciated. and just because it dont have one type of beauty dont mean it wont still be beautiful :)

every tank posted will be appreciated. its not a competition. more like an amazing picture book to see all the different setups lol. his is colorful. but yours might have the best rockwork in the world or something else so post away lol.

The aipstasia in my mantis tank is there for good. I think it looks cool, it's dirt cheap (free at the LFS), and it cleans the water. I always wanted to grow out aipstasia, and I figured a mantis tank would be a perfect place to do it. I won't get my fingers smashed trying to aquascape with frags, either. Ha ha.

I might tear up the 13 G nano later in the summer and replace all the rock with a cleaner layout. I've got too many smallish pieces of LR, and they're driving me nuts. I want to get a more uniform layering effect of corals, too. Decisions, decisions...

demonboy279
06/23/2006, 01:08 AM
yea they actually dont look bad. they dont look like they are spreading very much either. a mantis tank is the perfect place to do it lol dont have to worry about everything like in a full display tank.

tear it down huh? them little pieces can be hard to work with sometimes. ive noticed that. it never hurts to have a few small ones though. ive found they can come in handy. the bigger pieces definitely are better for coral arrangements though. good luck redoing it :)

Here's mine in the middle of a cyano fight\documentary. chemi-clean arrives today\tomorrow.. Plan to go shopping for this weekend for some new critters to add - its new aquascaping from my original design. I am thinking that big rock in the middle that juts out like a platform will be perfect for a mushroom forest or something that can get really nice and cover lots of area.. not sure just what to add there.

i hope you get rid of that cyano soon. that stuff sucks :( but other than that its a beautiful setup...
that would look sweet getting that rock covered in something. mushrooms would be cool. it would be even better if they were frilly mushrooms :) or just an idea get a colony of different colored zoas to make a forest. what ever you do make sure to keep us updated :)

Well, here is my entry. This is all DIY (except the skimmer). It's a 7.5 gallon and it has only been running for a couple of months. I am stocking it slowly and with small frags. Not much to look at inside yet, but thought you might like to see something different.

Thanks. It's weird and over the top, but that was the objective. I had some extra equipment left over from my three tanks lost last hurricane season and I was looking for something to do with some of it. I used the stand from my 45 for the cabinet / stand and built the tank and chest enclosure. Also built the sump. The 20 long on the bottom is divided in the middle and used for both fresh water top off and salt water reservoirs.

Since you want to see more pics, you might want to see the photo diary I did of the build.

my 5 bowfront is only about 3 months old. Seems to be running like a champ. After a phase of hair algae, it ran its course and is doing great. I did get a little bit of a leg up with cured liverock and sand from an established tank. I got the barnacle (was twice that size originally) from a local reefhead. Same person I got some of the rock and livesand from. The yellow polyps were on there as well as another small frag he threw in for free. The locals REALLY took care of me! ORCA people are #1 in my book!

Coralfiend what kind of lighting do you have for your main tank? I was thinking about getting a clam but wasn't sure if I could house it with power compacts. mine is 130w

I am running T5s (Current Nova Extreme 20" - 96watts total). But, the light sits only 1 inch above the surface. The clam is actually only about 5-6 inches from the light. The clam is an experiment. I am friends with my LFS owner and he just started carrying T5 fixtures. We were talking the other day about whether the T5s would work with clams. So, I brought one home to see. I am also target feeding it daily. I am skeptical if this will work. So far, so good though, but it has only been a few days. If the clam shows any sign of stress, I will bring him back to the MH lamps at the LFS. If I am fortunate enough to keep this clam happy and growing, it will eventually end up in my 140 that I am setting up now. There it will have 2 x 250 watt MH lamps.

The terrible looking LR is from Fishy Business in Longwood (<- very disappointing), I will NOT be going by there again. The awesome LR is from Aqua-holics in Kissimmee, which I frequent and am very happy with.

About half the corals are from liveaquaria, the other half from Sea In the City in Orlando which I STRONGLY recommend. I've never been disappointed w/ either.

The clown is a pink skunk clown (anemonie fish). The other stuff is Anthelia I think, I still have a hard time remembering names of stuff.

I went from 25 gallon tall to 20 gallon regular because I felt like my corals weren't getting enough lights. but here's the updated pic of my new 20 gallon.

how do you like the look of the corals/clams under the T5's?

Love everything about the T5s. I had the CoraLife 96 watt fixture prior to this and just didn't care for the actinic bulbs. I even tried different bulbs from HelloLights that claimed to be true actinic. There is no comparison whatsoever in the CoraLife and the Current USA fixtures. IMHO, the Current is far superior - of course it costs almost twice as much too.

I also like that the Current has the lights on different circuits (actinic, daylight & moonlights). The actinics and daylight bulbs have separate switches on the fixture and the LEDs you can just leave on or put them on a timer. You can put all of the types of bulbs on different timers.

I love the way the corals look under this fixture. More fluorescence than the CoraLife. The clam has been in the tank now for close to three months. Seems to be doing just fine. I originally had him about half way up, but decided to try it on the bottom. Seems to be doing very well there. One note on the clam, he is target fed regularly with a mixture of cyclops-eze, DT's and oyster eggs.

The "large" appearance was intended. The tank is 7.7 gallons. Here is a shot with a few objects in the foreground, which should bring the tank to a recognizable scale.

The rockwork of the tank was built with 10 pounds of very small rocks from cherry picking through my LFS's rock tub. Most of the specimens added were small frags. The tank is about 7 months old.
