The Saltwater Kid

I found this floating on the top of my tank. This is the third one I've found. They appear to be a worm at first glance but when you look closer it's actually an empty shell like something molted. What do you think it is? Good or bad?

it almost looks like an insect pupae casing, not a reef inhabitant at all.

that's what i was thinking. i'm far from an entymologist, but it does look like a pupae.

It is indeed a chrysalis--the pupa may be inside--it appears to be from the photo. I have noticed that these larvae (seem to be maggots) come in on live rock, probably while they are being packed.

I had a ton of them come in on my live rock, literaly hundreds came out in the curing process.
Apparently they show up around summertime.
Insect larva, that is.

No. They cannot do anything and will die when submersed.
