72 bowfront help needed

the guy next door has a 72 bowfront fw tank. the top has the standard plastic frame with a center brace. the brace has slowly cracked and spread away from the front glass and theres a 1/4" gap now showing. what can he do? he bought the tank used so we don't know the mfg. if we find it's allglass could we cut away the plastic frame and get a new top? thanks for any help

This same thing happened to me. I emailed All Glass. They recommended replacing the top frame as it is a MAJOR support for the tank. You will notice it spreads apart when full.

I ended up ordering a new AGA tank as they are only $199. The trim piece was going to take like 10 days to get so I just cut my losses and am selling the tank for 85$ to a woman using it for reptiles.

Some people have drilled holes in the existent brace and replaced the broken part with an acrylic piece.

The tank is most likely allglass or oceanic.
