Pretty hard to see, but there are little white things all over my tank around the bottom of the glass. They move like crickets, sit still then...pop they move really fast into a new place. Very small. Any clue?

The white things are probably just pods which are beneficial for you tank.

I hope they are, there are hundreds of them all over my tank glass and fuge. They grow fast, my system has only been running 7 weeks.

Looking good. Nice aquascaping, but you need to get that crocea clam out of there. The tank is way to new for it to survive.

Really, I was thinking with the fuge and nitrates staying under 20ppm for the last 5 weeks I would be ok.

The guy at the LFS said it likes nitrates to eat anyway. I got em for $30 bucks, nice white foot and about 2 1/2" long.

Hes been in there a week so far. Dead meat eh?

What kind of lighting do you have on there?

Four Icecap 660 110watt VHO's, running two whites and two blues.

yeah you are gonna want metal halides if you plan on keeping that clam alive. They need alot of light, and they suck up a ton of caclium.

Are you running any type of calcium reactor or dosing anything?

Have a good one.

Just dosing with Coraline Stimulator. I liked the clam and he is awesome but I am building a mostly soft coral tank and I dont think I want to buy MH and a reactor for a clam.

Actually the guy I bought him from sells aquariums out of his house and had this clam in the bottom sand of his 75 gallon for 4 months under a 500 watt compact with only coraline stimulator and iodine in a full on reef tank.

He has a nice white foot and great color too. For 30 bucks I thought I couldnt loose.

Should I send him back?

I would say there is a 40/60% chance it will keep its color. It may be ok if you keep it near the top, maybe, but croceas are probably the most light demanding clams out there. Also, if it is only about 2 in you should be dosing phyto. At that stage it will rely on phyto more than light... Personally, I would trade it to someone with stronger lighting for a coral or something.

I do have him about a 12" from the top where three bulbs are packed in tight. I hear ya on the color and life expectancy. Would switching to T5's and keeping him really near the top make an acceptable situation? I really want to stay away from MH.

If not I will trade him out, I have done "marginal" or somewhat iffy situations and in this hobby half azzing things leads to problems. I have spent alot of money buying better equipment than I need to do things the right way.

Its just not worth it.

For clams, MH is the way to go. However, I know of some people who have had success with clams under T5. IMO, T5 should be fine. You will also have more options coral wise with T5, such as many SPS corals.

Very cool, I appreciate the info. Isnt there some type of conversion I can do to my 660 to make a T5. Havent done much reading yet but I will soon.

Thanks again for your time on this!

I couldn't tell you if there is any kind of mod you could do to run t5s'. You might want to ask that in the Lighting forum...

I bought all my stuff from a local guy that buys and sells used equipment.

The name on it says Belkin.
