Eel with barebottom?

Why would you want to run this tank with a bare bottom?

It could be OK but myself I never do it for I always preferred to gives these animals as realistic surroundings as to the best of my abilities.

I always go with an eel only tank a gravel bed of not more then 2-2.5"

my snowflake likes to dig and kick sand around with its tail so I'd never do bare bottom with it either.

It`s not so uncommon for a SFE to dig in but most times it will be near to your LR or at most in it`s lair.

I wouldnt do it personally.....unless you plan on having a lot of caverness LR in your tank. I sunk a 3" pipe with 3 outlets into a 4-5" DSB and my eel couldnt be happier. I dont even want to think of how he'd be without his hiding spot.
