Who makes the most accurate test kits?

That depends on what you are interested in measuring, and what range, but I generally, with a few exceptions, recommend the kits from Hach, Salifert, Seachem, and LaMotte. :)

Which one is best for ammonia?

I do not know, as I rarely use any ammonia kit, and have not used one of those brands (LaMotte) for ammonia for 10 years. Sorry.

Are you cycling a tank? Otherwise, I wouldn't bother to measure ammonia.

Yeah I am cycling a tank right now.

What are your thoughts on Hach's test kit? Is it pretty good, better than others on the market for the basic kit?

thanks!

im not saying one brand is better than another, but if you need to use an ammonia test kit, i cant urge you enough to stay away from the seachem one. i like and use many of their kits, but this particular one i found to be almost pointless.

Any recomendations for a calcium test kit? I have an older Lamotte and even when new it was very difficult to interpret. I just tried it the other day and I am getting a reading of over 2000 ppm Ca, so I pretty sure it is incorrect.:eek1:

Thanks,

Todd

The salifert calcium test is easy to use. :)
