My tank has been up and cylcing for about 3 weeks now, i started it with a 10lb peice of cured LR, took a while for ammonia to go up (a week maybe a few days) and the nitrite has gone up a little, but since then all the test readings have always been the same. is there anything i can do to push this along? lol, buy a bag of already live sand or somthing that already has some bacteria? any ideas

Ten pounds of LR in a 10 gallon tank is different than 10 pounds in a 220 gallon tank.

How big is your tank? Was the rock pre-cured at all? Are you running a skimmer or doing water changes?

Yeah, how big is the tank?

..regardless, you need to dose: http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/4237/9513patience.jpg

Man, I know a lot of people who could use that bottle of patience in the jug size.....

haha i know i need the patience was just wonderin if theres somthing i can do to speed up the process, makin sure im not doing anything wrong. Its a 45 gallon tank, theres also around 5 lbs base rock in it and some dead coral bone. Its pre cured LR( i nkow its not enough but its all i could afford at the moment to get the cycle going) I am running a prizm skimmer, havin a little trouble adjusting it but getin that figured out, and an aqua clear 200 with a bag of carbon and sponge( i know the sponge isnt great but at this point in the game dont think it can hurt?)

Are you feeding it? You're supposed to put a pinch of fishfood in a day.

i thought the LR would start that part of the cycle, even tho it was cured.

If your nitrites went up then you are having a cycle.
My readings stayed stalled for over two weeks and I was really frustrated. Eventually the readings started to change and the cycle was soon quickly. Wait another while.

you could increase water temperature.... I wouldn't go above 84F. This will speed up cycle. Bacteria grows quicker with higher water temperature. Even a single degree makes quite a difference.
