Ok, the story starts when my wife and I deciding to go to Fiji for our honeymoon. We set the trip up and were waiting anxiously to go. A few months later, I was very fortunate to meet up with Walt Smith and his wife Deb at the IMAC show (extremely nice people). When they found out that my wife and I would be in Fiji at the same time they would be, they were more than willing to invite us out with them and show us around.

Long story short, we did meet up with them and let me just say WOW!:eek2: First and foremost, they were so kind in going out of their way to take us around and show us the farms and their facility. It was absolutely amazing! Second, I was very impressed to see someone in the business that actually does what they preach. Too many companies say they do a lot to help the reefs and surrounding communities and they are really stripping them bare with no respect for the locals at all. After seeing Walt's operation, I think he does more for the ocean than for himself and the hobby! He has done so much to rebuild the reefs in places that people have destroyed. Sustainable harvest is really what they practice and for that, I think they should be commended. My hats off to a company that can be trusted in providing quality fish and coral the right way.

Justin - Glad to hear you had such a great time on the trip. It's also very nice to hear that Walt practices what he preaches with preserving the reefs in the area. In listening to him speak at IMAC (MC Speaks) he seemed very dedicated to the cause and I'm glad to hear you confirm that he is ... hat's off to Walt and his company!

Now get some photo's posted so we have something to look at!

Hi,
What is he doing to rebuild Fiji's reefs?

Last time I was there some of the reefs were in horrible shape while others looked untouched.

wdt2000 -

He is the only distributer I know of that practices sustainable collection. Most of the areas where they collect...well they just collect! They strip it bare and move on to the next. His sites are barely touched and seem to regrow from what is put back. I can't speak for the other collectors on this cause I wasn't at their sites to see it. I can't really speak on WSI's behalf becasue I don't work for him. I am speaking on my own behalf of what I was told and saw when I was there. Im sure if you shot them an email they would let you know what they are all doing to help the reefs.:)

When did you go and what reefs did you check out?

Thanks
