I'm looking for a quieter return pump for my 170gallon reef. I have an iwaki 55rlt right now and tho dependable it is much too noisy. I do not need the flow of the iwaki 55 rlt either.

I have been away from the boards for awhile and was wondering what if any new pumps are out there.

ANy recomendations would be appreciated.

One constraint is that I would like to stay with my 1" plumbing.

TIA!

Depending on how much turnover you want:
GRI 520
Eheim 1260
there are others as well, but of the ones i've personally used these are best - imo

Eheim 1262. 1260 is good too, but ony 635 GPH at 0 head.

Best I can say for dependability is the Poseidon(Velocity) series. I have been using those for several years now and have never had one fail(other than when I submersed one in salt water  ).

Yeah they can add heat but if you run a chiller it's no problem. Whisper quiet and a solid all around pump. Easy to clean and swappable since you can just disconnect the wet end and plug it onto another body within ten minutes if you are good.

I can also say that Eheims are great as well. Have been running one on my Ca reactor for about 4 years now. I think.. will have to check that out.

Are people using ehiems for there main return. I always thought they were more a CA reactor pump?

I looked at the 1262 and it looks like the flow would be ok. Only problem is it looks like 3/4" output. Could I run this with my current plumbing or would this cause more head pressure going from 3/4" to 1"?
