Here is the latest stream mod. done to an Aqua-clear 301. Only destruction was the impeller top itself. The rest is all fabricated.

I did this one as a test for $15, Steve K sent me his pump to mod., I make the parts as a test to prove I can and send it to him to test. If all goes well I add it to the list of pumps I mod.

Typically I charge $30 for a kit and $50-60 if I supply the new pump too. Turn-around time depends on my supply of pieces and if I have slow times to make cowls. Money talks and I make time to get them out ASAP.

Which pumps you mod would create great flow for my 50G, its 36x18x18.

I'm currently modding an AquaClear 301 with a 1 1/4" dumas prop. The problem I've run into is that I can't seem to cut enough slots in the shround to keep the prop supplied. How far from the powerhead is the prop sitting?

What diameter pipe or what kind of piece did you use for the shroud?

Thanks!
Tyler

Any, but one MJ-900 would get the whole tank rolling gently. i like the MJ pumps best because they are simple, robust, and have quality impellers that just run and run and run....

Shroud is 1-1/4" pvd, I have 4 slots 1/4" x 1-1/4" and 12 holes .208 drilled between as webbing. Frominitial tests I think the 301 is just a sissy of a pump and the impeller is just too small for all but the lightest prop/shaft combo. It does work but not nearly as well as the Maxi's or Penguins. I use 1-1/2 x 3/16 dumas props turned down to custom fit the cowl. I like to run the prop as far forward as possible (about 1"- 1-1/4" and never behind the plane of the outer most slot (you get blow-by).

So only 1 wold create enough flow huh. Figured I would need more. How much to do a MJ 900?

If your tank is under 48" and you have some flow now one will do, if it's 48" or over 2 may be a better bet. I run 2 in my 120 that's 48 x 24 x 24 and get very good flow for my current corals. I'd add a 3rd. of I wasn't worried about my softies being blown all over the place. If you supply the pumps I'll mod 2 for you for $60. If I supply the pump they are $50 each. (for maxi-jets).
