I got these on a new piece of liverock there are about 5 of them. I was going to turn the liverock upsidedown from this view but saw this red antler looking thing. Neither of the crabs are bothering it, they are eating beside it. Can you tell me what it is and if it's good or a bad thing?
(My first picture so hope this works)

It looks like either a form of coralline algae or a foraminiferan, both of which are perfectly harmless (not to mention cool to look at).

Wow that was fast! Thank you! Guess I'll leave the rock like it is then. :)

i had the same thing in my tank. it grows off the rock like a tree. its soft to the touch, unlike a foraminiferan. its also fuzzy right? i never really got a ID on it myself, but its some type of algae. mine got about 2" tall and my emerald ate it all in one night.

Paintbug yes that's it! Guess it's a matter of time before my crab get's mine too then. I may try to transplant some to my sick tank and multiply it for food later. Thank you!
