The skin on the long part of the dorsal fin looks like it has been torn, and I can see what looks like a bone. The bone is intact. The fish is still eating well and active. Is this something that can heal?

If I understand you correctly, the fin tissue is torn, but the fin ray is intact, correct? Does the fish have any damage to it's body? If it's just the fin, nothing to worry about, it will likely be healed faster than you would think. If it's the body, still probably nothing to worry about. In the Kuiter Tang book, theres a picture of a tang that got bit in half, that the author claims was still swimming around and eating, because all of it's necessary organs were intact. I dont know if I belive that, but Ive seen some nasty injuries that have healed quickly and completely. Just keep watching behavior and eating, and KEEP THAT WATER CLEAN!

Yes, just the tissue is torn; the fin ray is intact. The fish's body is fine.
