does anyone else find it unusual that Tub's name is attached to them??

Yea that isn't correct.....Creetin is the first that had them and all frags have come from him.....He might have traded Tubs for something and tubs traded exoticreefs....I know it says something about a trade with Alex. That is where I got mine from Alex....

btw, i'm not bashing tubs by any means, he's a great stand up guy, very respectful reefer and a great asset to our hobby.

i just find it odd they tacked tubbs' name on it, and also said it was from alex.....

hrm... i think we have an interpretation issue here.

i read it as:
tubs' purple death palys from alex as in: tubs grew these out.

normally, he lists who the farmer is and then the name of it.

in this case, tubs grew them out and tubs is the farmer.

or, said another way, they weren't submitted to exoticreefs.us for sale from alex.

otherwise, i bet they'd be listed as:
alexs' purple death palys

see what i mean? i don't think john is attempting nor intending to take credit for:
a) the purple death paly name
b) 'introducing them' into the hobby

Alex is the one who originally sold tubs a frag. Tubs probably grew it out and is now selling it....

If you guys don't know Tubs = John = owner of exoticreefs.us, he has a forum here on reefcentral.

They are both nice guys, Creetin and Tubs.

Also, Creetin/Alex is the one who named them. He is local to me. I will point this thread out and see if I can get him to clarify some of this for you guys.

Hey guys I didn't mean to stir the pot up here.Just letting some know it a fairly new zoo.John can do what he was.I agree if he grows them out,he is the farmer.I'm and acro person myself.This seems not new in this hobby.When you have a acro,then someone else renames it.That's not right either,but it happens.A good example of this is the Pink Lemonade same coral Shades of Fall acro.If a trade was made,no big deal.If trades weren't done,most of us won't have the stuff we have today.John is a great guy.And will bend over backwards for us.

Definately not my intention to take credit for the Death Paly's and in fact it is noted with the thumbnail that these were originals from Alex and in the frag page itself it also says this: " Super Palys originally from Alex Agrusa". My name being next to it simply implys that it was grown from me (and yes they are fast growers so that is always a good thing :D).

These are Alex's babys and in no way will I slight him and besides I'm easy and we are on very good terms (as I am with 99.9999% of folks :D )

I've assumed anyways that these have already become legendary on their own under Alex's hands especially with what its fetched on ebay in the past.

I'll take that as a great suggestion. I didn't necessarily know alex as creetin and will mod the pages and will use creetin.

After reading this again - you are right so I stand corrected. In respect to the greatness of these palys Creetin's name should always be honored by having his name attached to it. In my defense though I simply didn't take the time to think it through. In a busy life with a real job, ER, and 3 young kids its hard to stop to think for too long (it hurts) :eek2: :p

no problem. :) zoanthid naming seems to be a touchy subject this season b/c theres alot of scammers taking credit for similar, yet different morphs to make a buck off of a "copy", and is not the "original".

you prob weren't aware of this, so no big deal. ;)

it just sounded "funny". theres alot of people who sell "tubs blue zoas" out there on the intent of making money, that are definitely not of the same strain, not even close. so we are just trying to look out for our zoanthid hobbyists :)

after rereading the frag page, i see why it sounded funny.

when i think of zoa names, i think if it has someones name in front of it, thats where it originated from (i.e. the first person who had it, and it was named after, or the person who at least made it famous).

on the frag page, i see each coral farmers name in front of the name of the frag they grew out. which makes sense compared to how the rest of them were named. and since creetin isn't one of the coral farmers, and tubs was.....yeah, that makes sense now.

i was just looking at it in a different way in respect to "naming zoas", not necessarily which coral farmer it came from.

simple mix up, no big deal. :)

You know what's funny I've maybe sold 1 small frag of my blue zoos in 2 years and everyone else is growing them and making frag dough but me LOL. My angels like to eat expensive meals and the only bits I have left are languishing in the frag tank.

You can't stop it so I don't worry about it at all but all I can say is buyer beware. The same can be said for the superman - lots of clones out there that just plain don't cut it compared to the vividness of the original.

i saw something mentioned about a green ring appearing on the purple deaths depending on what kind of light they are under (similar to the PHE's).

Not to butt in on this but I wanted to say that I know coralfanatics ships internationally to the UK. I also know that zoanthids are permitted to be shipped across country borders if and only if they are not attached to live rock. Permits are necessary otherwise though I do not know the details of how to go about getting them in place. Hope this helps.

By the by, I would love to get some of these purple deaths myself and wish I had the extra $$ to afford a frag :( Hopefully once I find a job I can afford them although I'm entertaining the idea of continuing on for my PhD (continued poor living).

Yes the PD's will take on a green skirt when in all 20k lighting, But will be like the pics shown sorta irredecent, and a little lighter.
You definately see thr green skirt under vho super actinic.

Yeap, Had a 3 orders from Coral Fanatics already! :) As said no paperwork is required, just the standard customs paperwork stating what they are (normal says aquacultured corals) & the value for import reasons....
