Can someone help me? I picked up this leather over the weekend. I know it can take some time for them to open up, but I'm a bit concearned about this white spot. It feels kind of tough. Should I wait it out? Cut it off? Please help.

Has it shown any polyp extension at all?

most leathers do not like change. I would give him a couple of days to adjust to flow, lighting ect...

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Not yet. It kind of swells a little bit when the lights are on. Also it tends to look a bit more "fuzzy" during the day. Not quite polyps, but it's skin... if that makes sense...

Hi,

I've read that they don't like change and can take awhile to adjust, but I thought they would just not open. If that white spot is dying will it come back after the coral adjusts?

Thanks again.

leahters do not require tons and tons of lighting. make sure you don't burn him

Give it a bit to acclimate to your tank. As was passed on they can take a bit more to come out. I don't think you need to cut. White isn't bad. Black or a rotting look is bad. ;) IMO. If it seems to progress and the leather doesn't open up then I'd look at finding a different spot in the tank.

8mycash,

here's my yellow leather. And regular sarcophyton. That is a 400W MH they are a few inches underneath.

Yellow leathers actually prefer high light as they are generally found at the reef crest.
