After really being dissapointed by the loud (and expensive) 4" icecap "smart" fans , I was just about to head out and get some DC computer fans from Fry's when a friend gave me two Vornado Zippi s ... not DC, but very quiet on the low setting, which is enough to cool my 90g. The fans are a bit unusual in that the blades are made of cloth (but water resistant). I mounted them in my hood close to the vent holes, which allows me easy access to the speed settings... looks like Amazon has some for $20.

they didn't come with their boxes, so the only specs I see on the Vornado website are dimensions - 5.50" L x 4.75 " W x 9.00 H. However, the fan can be collapsed into its stand, which is how I have it mounted, so it takes up less space -- about 6-7" (I have 13" vertical space in my hood).

or this one:

Interesting to see how they work out.

I've had them running for a week, through some pretty warm weather here in the bay area, and they seemed to cool the tank effeciently... but August is still on the horizon.

I'm disappointed people keep saying the IceCap fans are "loud" especially after I bought two of 'em and they're being installed in my canopy. I guess I'll have to form my own opion.

Not to hi-jack this thread but has anyone had any experince with this Cooling Fan:

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=14701&Ntt=fans&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&pc=1&N=2004&Nty=1

I want to rid myself of a small fan I have attached to the swinging door of my stand. I want to install this fan on my sump and be able to finally close my stand door.
