So I just set up a 26 gallon tank and put some live sand and live rock in. Some pieces of rock had quite some live on it. Please help me ID all that came with the rocks:

Tubeworms, I got 4 of them (each a different color) in one rock:

These were hiding in the rock and only came out the second day:

Got two of these:

about 6 of these, this one being the biggest one:

another quite big one:

and a couple more that move around all the time (anemones?) I'll post some pics when I get them at a good angle!

The first one is a filter-feeding worm. Any id beyond that is going to be tough.

Majano anemones are common pests. A bit of lime solution injected into the anemone would likely do the job. Use only a small amount, as lime will increase the alkalinity, calcium, and pH levels.

i use kents liquid calcuim for all of my pest anemones. A $.20 cent insuline syringe from the pharmacy and some kents liquid calcium does the trick. I like to give mine a last meal..... Feed a bunch of cyclop-eeze....... gets em nice and fat so they cant retract. then inject some calcuim into the stalk...watch them puff up and pop. Its quiet neet.

Do you have pepperment shrimp. They eat aptasia, only the small ones though. the big ones you have to kill.

My shrimp know what is going on when i cyclop-eeze and then stick my hand in the tank with a needle. The come watch then destroy the aptasia as soon as it pops. Its like whole milk...lots of calcium ;)

Green sort of coco worm, not common duster---neat. I've seen them red.
Button polyps, ricordea mushroom. Neat lot of hitchhikers, not much bad. Definitely the last is aiptasia, but I'm not sure the one everybody is id'ing as majano is majano. C/b another polyp. I don't know what the bulb-tipped item is.

it looks like a small aptasia to me...... if you touch it does it close up or pull inside the rocks. If its a polyp it wont suck into the rocks. It could def be a polyp though. I had 3 on this one rock that looked similar. At first I was gonna kick it thinking it was aptasia. I let them grow now I have 7 bright pink polyps.

They do close up when I touch them. I have some others that look the same, but have yellow/green tips are those the same? I guess I'll go get some peppermint shrimp.

i'm not really sure about those 2, first one looks like one of my very small button polyps, just a little more intricate. i wish my LR would have come with all this neat stuff on it

The first one in this looks to be a zoanthid polyp, the second one resembles a majano anemone but I dont think it is...

So who knows what it is? I've got 3 of these in my tank. Should they stay or go?

I got my rock at the LFS (in Germany) they where having a clearance sale to make room to change the saltwater part of the store. Got an extra 50% discount on the rocks :D

So it's a gamble. If you like the looks, you could keep them. If they start to spread, you might end up unhappy. Personally, I'd leave them and use limewater, vinegar, etc, as needed to kill them, pending a better id.

I don't know what they are but I have some of them. They don't seem to do any harm, but other corals don't like to touch them. They do spread, but not quickly like aiptasia.

Oke, I guess I'll leave them for now, see how it goes...
Any other way to kill the majano? I have one rock that is filled with them (about 9 on there) I took the rock out for now and put it in clean RO water, will this kill them if I leave it in there for another day? My second idea was to put this rock in the freezer...

bertoni

You could inject them with limewater, for example, or just throw that rock away. After dipping it in RO water, it's probably not all that live, anyway.

It's actually a quite nice piece of rock, so I don't mind killing off everything on it as long as the pest anemones are killed as well. After how long in RO water would they be dead?

bertoni

I don't know. If I were to go that route, I'd just let it sit a week or so in water, or perhaps just let it dry out in the air. The air treatment would likely kill any coralline, but the water treatment might not.

I'm wondering where you got your rocks from to have so many cool critters in them (outside of the aptasia and majano).
