Nassarius Snails question

is it ok to have these guys in a reef tank??? or actually potential reef but currently folr. ??? or should i just stick with turbos?

yes they are good snails to have, they eat detritus and bury them selves in your sand helping keep it stired up

Nassarius are great. They stay small (1/4"), so they don't bulldoze like turbos. They also breed pretty readily, so you'll soon have a larger cleaning crew.

You don't want these guys with a deep sand bed though, is that correct?

They're not a problem. They don't burrow very deep...just the top layer of sand.

I thought any disturbance of a DSB was bad? If it was okay for only the top layer to be disturbed, then that would tell me that a sand sifting starfish would be okay as well.

Don't mean to sound rude, but can anyone confirm what blindmelonbob is saying?

Nass snails are fine with a DSB. I had them in my 29g. You actually want the top layer or your sandbed to be stired up a little. It keeps everything alive. You just don't want to stir up your bottom layers of sand. I had a cuke that really kept things clean and sifted the entire top layer over and over.

no problem... i dont have a DSB though... so would it be an issue for my tank??? its only 2 inches high at most... these guys move fast 2... they made the turbos looks slow.

yeah. they are great for a tank. I have a turbo thats foot is the size of a silver dollar, he is my bulldoser =]. After I glued my corals it wasnt a problem.

These snails are fast....... I mean realy fast for a snail. Plus its sponge bobs friend gary(i think thats his name). So you know the nazz snails are good for reef tanks ;)

I think the case with sand sifting starfish is that they eat your pod population, making the DSB much less useful/alive. And then they starve to death.

nassarius snails are great for the sand bed i have about 15 in my 110g moved them all over to my new 180 and will be looking at getting a few more as i will be having a deeper sand bed this time round too.
