So I come back from vacation to notice these scattered around the tank on the rocks. Haven't tested the water conditions but the water temp is a bit high at 81.

Any idea what they could be and how to get rid of them? I don't think it is aiptasia, but then again what do I know

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Looks like simple sponge growth--nothing to be concerned about (I wouldn't worry about the temps, either). It also looks like you may be trying to get Asparagopsis sp (or red filamentous algae) growth. It is hard to tell if that is what it is, but you need to get rid of it ASAP.

i agree w/amphiprion (man thats hard to type lol) and the temp isnt high either...i'd say 84 is on the high side...not that i'd go to that but i've heard of peoples tanks getting to 90 (i'm in az) and nothing really happend...but the 80 range is fine

Try to stop it at 84. Get a major fan and bring it to bear on the tank surface if one in the sump isn't enough.

ya, or you could just get those small clip ons from walmart or something...i'm in az, and my water went up to about 88 one night, so i went to walmart and got a small 4 (or maybe 6) inch one..i have it so its on a shelf right nest to the tank pointing across the tank so the flow goes over the water....brought it right down to 78, so i leave it on all the time since it works so good. Gets a lot more evap now tho.

glad to hear that it doesn't seem to be a big issue.

Any suggestions on eradicating the red filamentous algae growth ?

Scrubbing or mexican turbo grazers (the latter may or may not eat it).
