Anyone currently successfully using a SSB is encouraged to participate. If you vote that you tweak... please explain how you do so.

Thanks in advance to everyone for keeping this poll on topic. Makes it much easier to acquire the needed info when other sand bed options have already been discussed...:D

I stir my SSB about once a month when I vacuum during WCs. It's a 1" sand bed consisting of mixed grains. SPS/clam tank.

So far it's 50/50... any chance the other two tweakers could let us know what it is they do? Thanks all! :)

I usually replace the sand every 6 months, it only amounts to a bag's worth of sand so it isn't too bad. Other then that I leave it be.

I siphon my sand quarterly when doing my water change at that time.

I'd have to vote for both :D Sometimes it gets disturbed by my GSM clownfish digging and by me cleaning the rockwork [blown around by a powerhead] other times I just leave it be. I'm in Sunny's camp though on longevity... if it ever gets to a state where I feel it's detrimental to the tank I'll just yank it all and replace ;)

I siphon off the top 1/4" of my 1-1/2" SSB every month or so as part of a water change, then replace some sand on top.
