Hey guys,

What way do you recommend to supply the needs of calcium to a 29 gallon aquarium. The tank will consist of 20+ small frags and a 3'' maxima. Please dont mention a calcium reactor as ive researched well into it and will probably get one at the end of the year.

I have the option of kalk but was wondering how i would go about dosing it. ( in top-off water?) It seems this would be the easiest method. Any opinions welcome.

Thank you so much,
Ryan

i do 4 ML of B Ionic a day, and use reef crystals

i will soon use a mix of crystals and oceanic, make levels balance more

i only have 4 sps frags, and will add more and more, and a derasa, eventually a crocea too

i also jus tstarted to TO with kalk

i mix 1 tsp. in a gallon of fresh water, so i dont cause a PH spike

good luck!

i have a 29 and have a bunch of SPS( couple of bigger colonies, 12 maybe more of frags).. i dose 9ml of part1 and part 2 of B Ionic.. i also use reef crystals.. this keeps my calcium at 450 and my alk at or around 9..

I use Randy's two part mix (going to start using his Magnesium recipe soon) and I dose kalk also since I've heard that it precipitates out phosphates.

SVXH6,

Do you only use bionic? And how big is your total system volume? Im thinking my 29 gallon with a 17 gallon sump will need about 10-12ml a day if i go with only b-ionic. Remember thats with 20 frags and a 4'' maxima. Can anyone comment on this?

Looks Like you have a 90g on the way :) I went from a 25gtank to a 125g ---dosing with B-Inonic. I quickly learned - dose Kalk and use (and even though you said don't mention it-- a cal. RX) . Start with Kalk! I have hear quite a few people say they can get by just using it.

Well what if I do 5 ml of b-ionic and 1 - tsp. of kalk per gallon of TO water? Would that work?

It may and it may not. You will have to determine your tanks needs. That is a good starting point but in the beginning and as your corals grow and demand more CA/ALK you will have to adjust the additives. Test, test, test. :)
