A few of you have asked about our Purist line and other additives and I finally had some time to take pictures and begin this thread. I am by no means an expert on this line but I did use this system in two of my tanks as it was in it's final phases of testing. The Purist Line consists of Rb10-Rb50, active carbon and Filtra M (our very powerful zeolite). The goal with this line was to provide our customers with a line of integrators that are both safe and effective for the person who is already running: strong lighting, an effective skimmer, providing good water movement and performing regular water changes and wants to improve water quality beyond this while maintaining a stable and diverse system. I have read other threads on systems designed to reduce nutrients and I hope that this thread can remain informative and for the people who are interested in using this line or to share their results when using some or all of this line of integrators. I'll also post a few pictures of the AQA (pronounced "aqua") line coral foods that are popular among SPS (AQA C1) and LPS (AQAC7) keepers in Italy. So here you go I will give you the brief descriptions as they are printed on the small purist line pamplets:

Filtra M (zeolite): molecular sieve to maintain a low level of ammonia
The highest quality zeolite, very high in clinoptilotite content, that can be used in any sump/filter, or inside of an appropriate reactor (REA120/120 plus). To control ammonia levels.

Rb 10 nourishing solution for aerobica bacterial
An indispensable primary nourishing source, selected from natural raw materials. Formulated in order to supply amino acids, vitamins in highly bio-available form to CORALS as well as all the biomass (mainly dedicated to autotrophic life).

Rb 20 selective accelerator of aerobic bacterial
A mixture of micro-biotic stocks aimed at establishing an adequate aerobic bacteria colony, fundamental in promoting the process of biological decomposition inside the marine Aquarium. Its employment favors the normal metabolic processes of the Aquarium.

RB 30 balanced pool of enzymes, organic and inorganic nourishing substances
A nourishing enzymatic Complex for all the biomass, it avoids the mono-bacteria cultures, strengthens the already available bacteria, accelerates their reproduction, feeds all the biomass including the corals and helps in the reduction of nutrients (NO3 and PO4).

RB 40 enzymatic accelerator for the development anaerobic bacteria
A mixed powder of microorganism and enzymes, fast acting in the microbial predigestion, break down and digestion of polluting organic substances and inorganic substances.

RB 50 nourishing solution for anaerobic bacteria
A natural biological activator studied in order to start and to maintain an optimal process of denitrification. It takes part directly in the reduction of nutrients (NO3 and PO4), helps in increasing the production of the bacterioplankton.

Expert Line Additives
http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/113960extrastro.JPG
Expert line additives are very strong and not intended for the beginner. I took a picture of the expert strontium but we do carry a full ine of these additives. The website should have these listed but I do not believe the website has the full range of the purist line updated, yet.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Jesse I'm also interested in the line and the reactor. Is there anything further to read about the system, how much you need, etc. I'm sure it's fairly close to Zeovit but I'm really ipressed with your stuff so far so am very interested in trying.

I have a small pamphlet on this line and of course, the instructions in each box. If you remind me I can send one in the mail. Our REA reactor can be run fluidized to run our filtra m but you can also put it in a fast moving area in your sump.
Chelskisw6, I don't know if I ever answered your question? If I didn't remind me as well.

Don't zeo systems need some sort of reactor that you have to shake or stir the media every day? Or is that just for the ultralith (It's all confusing to me!)?

Red Sea Purple Tang

Hey Mike! Yes they do. The also recommended a slow moving water source through the reactor. With the FiltraM, mixing isn't needed and a higher water flow is recommended. Less work with the FiltraM.

Now I have to find some posts on this FiltraM thing! Is running something like this super expensive and time consuming/difficult? It seems like you really have to pay TONS of attention to the tank and dose this here, that there... check this and that.... What do you think? Plus, doesn't that get SUPER DUPER expensive? I was looking at this ultralith stuff and it seemed to cost a ton for all the supplements.

I've been using the Purist Line since October of last year on my 50 gallon tank (80 total) and I finally have broken into my second container of RB30, RB20, and RB50. I've changed out the Filtra M three times now also (500ml in the reactor and changing out 350ml every 6 weeks).

I went with a reactor this last change out to see how that affects the tank, but I won't know what the corals think until they are out of quarantine (AEFW).

Overall I would say that I have used about $100 worth of product, and will continue to use it. As my girlfriend has even noticed that my water has never been this clear.

I agree that the components may be costly, but it seems to last a long time. I have a 125 and I use 400 mL of the Filtra-M and then daily

0.5 mL of RB10 and RB50
2 drops RB20
0.4 mL scoop RB30
0.15 mL scoop RB40

It takes me a couple of minutes a day to add the stuff

When I started the Purist products I took off the rowaphos and ozone and have undetectable nitrates and phosphates, so for me it makes sense.

What happens if you forget a day or two or go out of town? Does your system crash? I'd be worried since these additions are so precise.

I normally dose when I feed the tank, so I have't had any problems remembering.

I have heard that missing a couple of days isn't a problem. I have been lucky so far and I haven't had to go anywhere, so I don't know for sure.

As far as the doses it is what is easy. There are 2 scoop sizes, for one I use the big one, the other the small one. For the liquids I cut the dosage in half after Nitrates and Phosphates went to not detectable on the test kit and I am watching to see if long term this is the right amount. I could have stayed at a mL, but as you said originally this stuff isn't cheap and I don't like putting anymore "stuff" in the tank than I need to. Perhaps after another month I may try dropping the dose again and see what happens.

Well I can say your system won't crash. I have gone several days (4 at most) and never seen anything negative happen with the corals or tank in general.

Hey Bricky! What were your starting (first 4 week) dosages. The first phase on a 250g total water volume is a tad steep. I'm in week 2.

Bricky
03/23/2007, 02:30 PM
Filtra M - 200 ml
RB10 - .5 ml
RB20 - 2 drops (should of been more, but oh well and raised it by 2 drops weekly until I got to my maintenance dose)
RB30 - .4 ml
RB40 - .15 ml
RB50 - .5

I gradually increased as the weeks went by too.

MikeD

Now do you have to use a reactor chamber such as this? Ultralith reactor (http://www.aquariumobsessed.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AO&Product_Code=FM-LITHREACT3L&Category_Code=FMZL)
http://www.aquariumobsessed.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/FM_LithReactor.jpg

Also, can anyone help predict my costs per month or quarter with a 120xl tank? (just for reference)

Bricky
03/23/2007, 04:49 PM
No reactor is required to run Elos' Purist Line. As far a cost per month/quarter it will depend on your tank and what you are seeing in your PO4 and NO3 measurements.

As per the instructions that come with the Purist Line products

During Set up, without animals or when you have high nutrients:

RB10

1 ml per 100 lt every two days

RB20

45 drops per 100 lt (week one)
*Reduce over a month to the maintenance level.*

RB30
.4ml (large spoon scoop) per 25 lt daily

RB40
.4ml (large spoon scoop) per 25 lt 1-3 times per week
Try to break this down daily

RB50
1ml per 100 lt daily

*With low levels of nutrients (NO3 and PO4) / Maintenance doses

RB10
.5ml per 100 lt every 2 days

RB20
10 drops per 100 lt once a week
*Try and break this down to once a day*

RB30
.4ml per 100lt daily

RB40
.4ml per 50 lt once a week
*Try and break this down daily*

RB50
.5ml per 100lt daily

Bricky

So for the system 120xl (assuming you will use the Elos sump), your looking at about 140 - 150 gallons total or nearly 570 liters.

RB10
2.75 ml every 2 days ( I add only on Mon., Wed., and Fri.)

RB20
55 drops weekly or 8 drops daily

RB30
2.2ml daily

RB40
.44ml 1x/week

RB50
2.75ml daily

Filtra M
800-900ml (assuming you have a good skimmer)

*Just a note for those reading*

I am just a hobbyist that has been using the Purist Line since October, so by no means am I an expert. My math might be off some and ofcourse every tank is different. The numbers above is what I would go with if I was to have a tank of this size.

I'm actually looking at using the Purist Line on my future 400 (600-700 total gallons) because I am very happy with the results and ease of the product.

Cool bricky I recently purchased the purist line also. I am eager to try it out once I get my tank. Do you have any pics of your tank?.

Thanks for the detailed resonse... I think I'll try this out when I get my system! As long as these items all have something to use to measure out everything quickly and easily, it shouldn't be a big deal at all! Oh yeah, pics of your tank would be great! Let's see this in action!

No ill effects as of yet. I seem to get a bit more polyp extension, but only time will tell as it's only been about a month.

I am using the Filtra M - Rb 10 through 50 along with Amino Acid

I also have been using the Elos carbon as well (amazing stuff)

Jesse,
What makes the Elos carbon (per raddogz's comment) superior to other carbon products?

Also, any update on when when can purchase online at Marine Depot?

No update on the official date but it is close, I would guess about a month. Without getting into too much detail our carbon is a very small pellet, like mechanical pencil lead and is very porous and pretty close to dust free. Hope that helps.
