Noisy siphon overflow box

I recently put in a lifereef overflow on my 55g and it was EXTREMELY NOISY!!! I since have built several different stockman standpipes trying to get it to be quieter. Each of the different pipes that I built did make it quieter but it still makes noise and they sacrificed waterflow (I now have to throttle back the return pump which I did not have to do without the stockman pipe).

Is there anything I can do to get it quieter? Should I make the drain to the sump out of pvc instead of the clear plastic tubing? I was thinking doing that would help with the air build up and LARGE bubbles that it blows into the sump.

My hang on overflow was loud for the first day or so but then it stopped and didn't do it since.

I have had mine set up for about a week and a half now. Do you have your drain line plumbed with hard or soft pipe?

Soft
