Dusting off your live rock?

Does anyone ever use a turkey baster or some other instrument and "dust off' debris from their rock...?

Yea, I clean mine off 2-3 times a week.

i used to use a turkey baster but it took so long because my tank is big that now i hook up a spare power head and just go around "dusting" offthe rock with that.

If you have a smaller tank thoughit should be enough.

It is important to clean off the rockin areas of slower flow where you keep corals that dont like that much flow, in my case it is alldifferenttypes of mushrooms.

I let the liverock/scavengers do their job. I can't see anything on my rocks ever, however, if I do manage to hit a rock on accident with a powerhead I will see stuff still come off. Unless this is visually unapealing I don't feel it a necessary step at all. In which case you might consider feeding less or re-aiming power heads in the first place to cure the problem, not the symptom.

dusting off the rocks is key, it gets the stuff that even your reef crew cant get at, it also seemingly feeds the corals or at least makes them open and try to feed.

I use a powerhead to blow of any debris about once a week, usually when I am doing a water change.

I usually use a turkey baster, or sometimes I will use a powerhead. I try to do it at least once a week and definetly when I do water changes.

Same here...I use a turkey baster every week. I repositioned one of my powerheards recently and it helped with the debris on my rocks.
