would you be so kind as to explain to me the way you did this??? I have been working to reduce mine for months now with just a little luck. My nitrates are still around 80 ppm.. I have a sump with macro and a skimmer.. A sand bed in sump and aquarium.. Have done 3 water changes of about 30% one was almost 50%.. Any advice is greatly appreciated...

Do you have a big bio load? I have 5 fish right now in my 240 trying to grown Sps but getting my water right first. You use RO water?

Congrats kzoo. I would also like to know what worked for you. I was measuring above 50ppm for months. I did 12% wc every week, quit feeding flake and overfeeding, aggressive skimming and after about 4 months, my trates are below 2.5ppm. I takes patience and alot of work but it can be done IME. Please share what you did.

First I have a small bio load and I know some of you love your fish. I started by skimming 24/7 and running a filter sock under my skimmer and cleaning or changing it every 3 days, also try to change my RO filters on time, I ran some purigen for a week or two, then ran some carbon for 2 weeks, I am also running a fuge in my sump with a deep sand bed that came out of my other tank. water change of 25gall every 10 days.I know that my levels may not stay this way but I think good tank keeping is the only way.

I don't think so. I have 2 damsals a clown and a hippo tang. couple red legs a brittle star 4-5 turbo snails and some nassarius (sp) snails. I have been using water that tests 0 ppm on nitrates for make up water.
