Ive had my tank up for about a week and Im such a worrier that Im waiting to get up one morning to be standing in water...lol. I was wondering how many people here have actually had thier tanks explode or come home one day to a river flowing from your house? Just curious as to how often it happens.
It's not too common. Used tanks are the biggest worry, because you don't know how they've been knocked about. Glass is a funny substance. One tap can proliferate a scratch into a crack up and down a whole piece: that's how you cut it, in the first place.
If you want to protect yourself against other accidents, be sure you have a hose clamp [plastic ones] everywhere a hose connects to a fitting. A hose coming off is one of the major sources of flood.
A stuck valve is another: it's why I'd rather bore holes to break a siphon than put a valve into a line. I just don't wholly trust them, considering our water is full of buffers and salts and algae and snails and slime and such.
