The WMAS in Utah did this, and I'd be cool to see it done here too. They have a thing goin on called the "reef tour" where some people from the club sign up to show their tanks to other members and other people from the community, and well, the rest go and look. They set it up for one saturday, and all day long the people who show their tank get visitors to see their tank. Perhaps we should do somethin like that here?

Me either. I followed the thread rather closely, and it seemed like setting things up wasn't much of a problem. If this is something that OMAS would like to do, let's get it approved and go for it. I guess we technically don't have to have approval if a bunch of people want to gather to look at tanks though ;)

I nominate everyone drive out to Stillwater :lmao: ;)

What siren (aka: #2 son) failed to mention, was that this is a HUGE deal for the Wasatch Marine Aquarium Society in Salt Lake City/Ogden, Utah. They have something on the order of 150 very active members and the tour typically has an electronic guide book that is about 30 to 40 printed pages. It wouldn't be at all odd for the tour to easily encompass an area of about 100 miles, end-to-end. The last one we attended (2005), also got some nice TV news coverage. Anyone interested in reading more about what we're talking about, have a look at the WMAS web site (http://www.utahreefs.com)

According to the hobbyists who welcome guests into their homes for the tours, it's a bittersweet experience...they love showing off, but hate the fact that they don't get to see the other tanks on the tour.

I participated in the tour around Norman and OKC. I would be a little cautious about inviting people to my house that I did not know, particularly on that scale. We had around 15 people or so. It was very pleasant and it was a good chance to get to know people better.

well even if there is only 15 people who participate it'd still be worth it. I see people in the LFSs around here all the time, and if we did it and advertised in the LFS, it'd surely bring more members to the club as well.
