Hello everyone, my LFS has some nice clams in stock which are on sale for only $20

I have the lighting to support it and am serisouly considering grabbing one for such a cheap price....

Question I have is what is the proper placement procedure for a clam, should it be set on the sand? Should it be glued or epoxy to a piece of LR? What is the best food for a clam? Cyclopeze?

Thanks in advance

Rob

Don't ever glue a clam to anything-you will kill it. It will attach itself. As for where it should go, it depends on the kind of clam. Some like sand, some like rock.

Ive had a sand dwelling deresa on my bare bottom for 6 months and it has more than doubled in sized; place them wherever they get strong light and medium flow.

Cyclop-eeze is too large for clams. If the clam is larger than 2.5-3" you dont need to directly feed it anything. If it's smaller, live phytoplankton.

Can clams move around themselves?

The clams at the store are Crocea Clams

The clams at the store are Crocea Clams

We have a crocea under 150MH. We keep it about 4" down from surface of water with the lights being about 8" above the tank. Clams can move, but not much. However, if it doesn't like it's location, it will detach from the rock to find a more suitable site. Crocea's like to be in the rock, although I've read on here that many people keep them in the sand. I wouldn't do that with 150w however. Keep it as close to the top as possible, but acclimate slowly.
