Hello!

I was over in the New to the Hobby forum, asking for help with an ID for a plant that magically appeared on one of my rocks the other day. It has more than doubled in size and now has babies on various other spots on the rock. I was concerned it might be something I should be getting rid of, but I do find it pretty, and quite like it.

Paintbug suggested it was Halymenia duchassaignii, and the link he provided is very similar to what I am seeing. I've included a photo for again for you guys.

I've not had much luck finding any info on it otherwise. Can anyone tell me more??

Thanks!

Thanks!!!!

I don't know why I was having such difficulties loading that 2nd photo. I had "edited" my post at least 3 times, and it still wouldn't show up!

I've not had much luck yet in my searching. I've tried Yahoo and Google. Are there any others I could try that you know of??

Algaebase.org's image search.. though unfortunately this specific species doesnt have a photo listed in their database. It does seem to resemble a Halymenia, I'll give it that much. :) Hard to tell from the photos provided. And, it would be close to impossible to ID just from a photo anyway.. algae ID is tricky stuff once you try to get beyond genus level.

Should I be concerned about its presence, do you think??

Based on your image or what I can get out that image and my ID books I would agree that it MAY be a Halymenia duchassaignii
