I went on vacation for a week and when I came back, one of the lobes on a Lobophyllia was half bleached. I have no idea how fast it happened.
Water parameters are normal except that salinity rose to just under 1.030 and I usually keep it at around 1.025. Also, my skimmer broke down right before the trip so there was no skimming while I was gone. All other corals look very healthy including a Rugosa which are well know to be the first to bleach in the wild.
So, What do I do with the Lobophyllia? Should I saw off the bleached part? It has two elongated lobes and about half of one lobe (5") is bleached. It does appear to be necrosis from the looks of it rather than simply discoloration.
