View Full Version : Flaot switch signal to turn off air pump?

So I have an issue that maybe someone with intimate knowledge of the ACIII Pro can help with:

I need to shut down my skimmer air pump when the collection bucket gets full. I had been using a "Weatherson" shut down system but with 100 liters/minute of air going into my 50g skimmer, the back pressure caused it to explode. (And no, I am not kidding.)

So rather than using a mechanical shut down process, I need to send a signal to the ACIII Pro to stop the air pump. I guess some kind of float switch system would work but I need advice on the components to use. For instance, if I wire a float switch to the digital input on the ACIII Pro, does it need to be powered, or will just completing a circuit signal the controller? Does it need some kind of relay then too?

Any advice on how to set this up would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Do a search on the user "kattner" in this form. He has wire diagrams and pictures of his 4 floatswitch control box for the AC3pro

Thanks! That did answer my question about whether the switch has to be powered or not. :)
