Is that white thing on the end of my rock some type of coral? Is it dead? I have no clue what it is. This is one of my favorite pieces of LV I have in there because it has different shades of red & purple on it. Most of the othert LV have the same shade red on them.

In any rate, I was just wondering if anyone out there could identify what ever this "white sprout" thingy is....

just wondering...can you get a FTS so i can have a look at your rock work...but to answer your question...im not very good with corals so ill say its some tube worms :p..just joshing ya...not really i have no idea with corals besides they need lotsoflight andheavy to moderate flow...but anyway if it is a coral most likely dead...touch it and if its hard itsprobably a skeleton..must say pics are a bit blurry

Must be dead, whatever it is. Sorry the pics are a little blurry. My 4meg camera has a "underwater" setting but it doesnt seem to work very well.

Taking a couple FTS. BRB

Looks like a some sort of Acropora. Maybe A. tenius, but very hard to tell from the pic, and because of how small it is. Looks like there may be some life in it, but its on its last legs...

Why does some LV have more colors(reds and purple) or shades on them? What kind or LV has the most colors? And are the harmless?

Where can I get it the real colorful stuff?

i like the set-up...and the chocolate chip is my favorite...but rock work looks a little unstabble wouldnt you say...check it just incase...i lost my 125 gal. because (excuse my language) my damn urchin pushed over a rock and busted the glass...thats what a wet/dry vac is for i suppose :/

the "colored" stuff you mention is the coraline algae...good for your tank...grows when calcium and Alk are pretty stabble...dont worry you'll be getting plenty of it in months to come

Actually, its not unstable. Beleive it or not. Each rock is/was strategicly placed so my little guys have holes aka homes. Not to mention a playground. The rocks on the bottom are heavy(good foundation) the rest was like "rubicks cube" just have to find the right fit. It took me a while....but I made it happen safely and securely..

Some type of "Eclipse" set up. One blue one white bulb.
I bought the tank from a coworker in June and this was the lighting the came with it. I know...not very good I know.

welp quick tip...coraline grows faster on clean surfaces...also keep Alk at 8-10 dKH and Ca between 420-450 for it to grow in well...ive heard scraping it off or chiseling it with a screw driver and placing it various places speeds it up...just turn off you filter for a while if you do it or let it grow on your base rock

Didnt understand your opening sentence?

How long does the process take to spread to other rocks?
And did you suggest to turn off my filter? And for how long?

IF....AND ONLY IF...you decide to chisel off some coral to spread and help speed the process then yes turn off your filter until it all settles...coraline will grow by itself however if you condition your water correctly...it took about 5-6 months before i started scrapping it off the sides of my tank...you say you want it now but when you take the razor to the front of the tank 2-3 times a week you wont be saying the same:)...adds color and my urchin likes it

Since Ive started, I have seen some brown stuff showing up on the rocks.

Sparky (as I call him) the green carpet has been in this tank for a little over a year now. He likes "prime reef" alot better than the "silver fish?" I was told to feed him. By the way, I feed him once a week.

I have to feed this guy like every 6 hours...

Coralline algae seems to prefer lower light IME.
