I was thinking about getting a couple of shrimp to clean up my aptasia problem. but what i have read is that they also eat small polyps like zoo's. has anybody had this problem ?

The polyps they may chiefly go after are yellow polyps, the hairy sort, because those are a relative of aiptasia and smell like them to the shrimp. The shrimp will eat baby aiptasia. They nibble on and discourage the adults, rarely taking one out. They prevent their spread.

thanks
I have yellow polyps. the type that are on a stock about 1/2'' tall. so they dont kill the adults ! then i have to use joes juice or something like that to get rid of the buggers ?

I would get several pepps they will spawn and provide extra food for your corals.... I personally wouldn't worry about the polyp stock.

Didnt know they would spawn thats cool!the verdict is still out . Do they eat aptasia adult and juvinile. or is it a combo. of joes juice and shrimp to rid myself of these nasty's ?

Mine ate one that was about 1in tall. Took them a few weeks to find it, but they ate it. I would say pepp shrimps should most definately be a part of ANY aiptasia abatement program. if you have too much Aip, you might want to think about kalk paste or joe's to help them out...

I've got some. No problems with polyps and better yet, all Aptasia is gone and hasn't returned.
