my ca reactor is maintaining my ca levels at a nice 420 but for some reason...it shoots my alk to 10.2!

i had to turn off my reactor to let the tank slowly get my alk levels back to normal.

i use a med sized custom/diy reverse flow ca reactor on a reef fanatic pH controller set at 6.75 with ARM media.

anyone with similar experiences?

What I have found is that there is a balance that needs to be achieved between the two. I figured out that if I use the Ca reactor to maintain the alkalinity, the Ca will find its natural happy spot and remain there.

In other words, forget about Ca for now. Dial the reactor to maintain the alk where you want it. Once it remains stable, check out your Ca levels, and adjust them if necessary.
