if my salinity reads at the low end, is that ok? if not, how can i get it to about the middle? it reads at like 27 or 1.020

First, be sure you have an accurate means of measuring your salinity, such as a carefully calibrated refractometer. Then, to raise it slowly and carefully, add saltwater as topoff instead of freshwater. Do this as your water evaporates to raise the salinity.

ya what they said lol. thats what i was gonna say..if you dont have a refractometer, most lfs's have one that they test water w/...just ask them to test for you to see if its the same as your reader.

Very slow changes when it comes to salinity and as long as you are at some point in any safe range you should be ok...consistency.

ok, thanks! i just tested my mixed up water (first time mixing it & i did it @ like 5:15am) and its perfect! yay! i'll just keep adding bits of it. thanks again!

My salinity was at 1.030! So I did 1 water change and it was the same... next water change I took out about 3g of saltwater and then dumped in 5g of freshwater. It fixed the problem with the salinity and nothing showed signs of dying or such. I guess I got lucky, but my clowns keep getting ich... comes and goes. I guess I have to be more aware when I do water changes and how quick I put the water back into the tank.
