Hey guys, I have my newly set up 24g Aquapod. Now, with what came with it, filtration wise, I dont feel like it's doing anything! I have 2 pieces of sponge, and the bag of ceramic rings dropped in the second chamber doing nothing. So basically I have nothing but mechanical filtration. I am wondering what else I could do to have some more filtration. I am going to get around 30lbs. of LR so that should help. But I still feel like I am not doing anything filtraion wise. Thanks

might i suggest taking a spin over to the member tanks section and see what they are doing with their systems

I had the same problem with my Aquapod...ditch the bioballs and ceramic rings, but keep the sponge for mechanical filtration, then get a good protein skimmer (Remora, etc.) and plenty of live rock and sand, then you'll be fine

How do you fit a remora into a pod? I have a 12g and even the nano fission piece of crap that current usa makes FOR THE AQUAPODS does not fit into the tanks overflow compartments.

Well, I am going to just put cheato by itself in the 2nd compartment. I added a small 90gph powerhead to that chamber so the cheato will have plenty of flow. Then the rest will be LR and LS.

And about the Remora, I think he uses it as a HOB and just puts the pump and the water outlet in the chamber.

But I wasn't planning on having a skimmer. Is that going to be OK if I have the tank filled with LR, and seed my sandbed with LS plus having the 2nd chamber filled with cheato. Do you think it will be OK? I will obviously leave the sponge in there.

I plan on buying a golfball size of cheato either tomorrow or Friday at my LFS. I am not sure yet about LR rubble in there.

i dont see why you need additional powerheads just for your chaeto....seems like you want the water to move more slowly where the macro algae is at or you pretty much lose the benefit of it altogether. plus all those extra PH's AND a 150w MH? I see heat issues possibly in your future

i read somewhere that cheato is happier and filters better when gently tumbling.
i believe that lighting fixture has built in fans so all you need is a clip on fan or something to blow across the water surface to aid in cooling.
The extra power head thats up to you but i don't think it will really aid in boosting cheato performance

Well there is no flow in the second chamber. It would just be sitting there, and I feel like it isn't doing anything that way. My tank temp is about 83.5 now.
