I have ten cerith snails and 3 nassarius snails. The cerith snails do not always stay under the sand, they crawl on the rocks and on the glass. The nassarius snails are always seen nowhere. How can I tell if they are still alvie?
My other question is: Do I have to siphon the sand when I do water changes since I have the snails and a pair of pistol shrimp and its symbiotic partner goby?
Btw, I do not have a DSB, it is only between an inch and two inches.
Thank you. :)

Mine do the same thing. When they get hungry, they'll pop up.

And no, you don't have to siphon the sand. You can siphon off the top of the sand if junk is sitting on top, but not into the sand.

Keeping an active, well stocked sand bed will benefit your goby. Good luck!

I have around 30 or so nassarius snails that I like to call my little army. Everytime I feed the tank they pop up out of no where and just go nuts on what makes it to the bottom.
