My tank has been setup since feb. this year. I like alot of rock so have loaded it up with it. I really want this to look like a side of a cliff in the ocean. So how am I doing?

Looks very nice but I would try adding a blue/black background to the tank to make the corals stand out more.

Yes I really need to do that but playing around the tank is just not as much fun as playing in it !!

What kind of lighting do you have on that tank? I am wanting to turn mine into a reef and yours looks great! I have been researching but am not sure what kind of lighting I should use.

I am using power compacts. I have a current light fixture that is using 2 65 watt bulbs and it has night time leds for when the lights go off. I am planning on upgrading soon to T5's. Still researching.

Nah I'm just playing... looks nice
Do you have "anti-shypon" hole on your return spout?
Just a suggestion but.... if you dont have one, you sump doesnt look like it could hold to much more water if the power goes out. Then you would have about 3-5gals on the wood floor! :eek2: :eek1:
You would have to make a bigger sump/fuge or shorten the height of the baffles

Feed them or not, they are still going to go after the snails every chance they get.

skimmerless?

I don't have anti-syphon valve. The LFS store convinced me not to and to drill small holes in the return above the water line. That way if we lose power, it stops the syphon because it sucks in air. The guy at the lfs told me the anti-syphon always fails...sooner or later. Its only a matter of time before they do. He gave me this suggestion of drilling holes which will last forever and keep my wood floor dry. :)

Yes - skimmerless
I put the overflow up a little higher than normal so it takes water from the top and syphons it down to the refugium. I put a sponge in the overflow to collect some and I clean it out every two weeks. Not sure if that the best solution, but so far it's working great.

what is that tube on your powerhead near the overflow connected to? Also, any fish or all coral reef?

Yes actually I turn off the pump every night to feed the fish. I think they got tired of chasing the food before the overflow took it down to the tank below :)

The tube is connected to the overflow that is on my tank to make sure that it stays primed for when the power goes off and back on. Without it I am a dead man.
I have 4 fish....2 nemos for my girls (clown fish), purplefire fish (they named magenta), and a royal gramma (they named sugar bug)

I put that many crabs and snails in my tank because that is what was recommended on the site http://www.tbsaltwater.com/ As far as I can tell the hermits seem to be missing more than any of the snails. I got some live rock that has some bad gorilla crabs in it and I caught one and killed it but since then have noticed 2 more. Most of the hermit crabs are small and most of the snails are big. I also have alot of shells on the sea floor.
The funny thing is since the rock arrived I have more snails now then I did. Some getting eaten would probably be nice..........oops I did not say that :)

Is that a CPR overflow?

No actually that was a cheap overflow that I found on a site on the internet. I think I got it for 50.00 I thought the construction looked good and noticed it had everything the others had so I bought 2 just in case I would need an extra. After having this piece up and running now for over 2 months I am happy with it and will most likely be selling the other overflow in trading/ selling forum.
As you can see in an earlier post I start and stop this everyday for feeding time and everything starts up like it should. Of course this is also over kill for my application but I figure more is better.....it is 600gph FYI I use a mag 5 pump.
