I am used to Reef tanks that needed a pretty decent amount of water movement, I was wondering what is recommended for a FOWLR type tank regarding water movement. Thinking about buying some new pumps to move water, but not sure what is needed or ideal? Suggestions would be great! I have a 72G bow front

im thinking of a seio 1500 for my 75 i saw a 1100 in the pet store today and it was adequate for 29gallon tank -- I believe most fish like good flow as well

Depending on the species of fish you plan on stocking and if you have live rock/sand - I'd say about 10-15x tank volume turnover per hour. If you have a 72 gallon tank you want the total gph of all your powerheads and mechanical filters to be around 720-1200 gph.

In my 75 I use an Aquaclear 110 (about 400gph), a maxijet (about 200gph) and a Seio 620 (around 600gph) for a total
of about 1200gph. I have around 90lbs of live rock and fish that like a lot of flow.

If you plan on stocking anglers, lionfish, etc. then I'd lean towards 10x or about 720gph total flow. IMO fish like tangs, dwarf angels, anthias, damsels, etc. seem to enjoy more flow/current.

FWIW I use a velocity T4 on my 90g reef as well as my 260g FO

I did buy another pump to run 2 ocean clear canisters on the 260g, I just haven't hooked them up yet

The more flow you have the less detritus will settle on the liverock and sand. IMO a FOWLR should have as much flow as a reef system because of all the fishes and the waste they create.
