Is that a Bi-color Blenny? I have debating getting one, I hear a lot of good things about them.

I finally got a better picture of him out of his cave. Gives you a better look at him.

cool - looks good. What substrate are you using in your tank squire?

I just have two bags of live sand, and then I had two buy about 2 pounds of the broken coral/gravel/shell mix just for this fish. He burrowes in to that cave, then he builds a home by getting mouths full of the sand/gravel/etc... and spits it out, kinda like digging out a fox hole, he has a mound around his hole about an inch higher then the rest of the sand.

Cool, all jawfish are known jumpers so make sure you have something to cover the tank top.
Eggcrate works well.

I was told to watch him for the first few days because I have no cover on my tank. From what I have read, and been told by fellow saltwater people, is once they make a burrow they are highly unlikely to jump. Usually when they jump it is in the first few days, and likely because they don't like the enviroment, the substrate, lack of places to make a home etc...
This guy made a home in three places in the first four days. He has been in the one he has now for over a week, so I think he has locate his prime realastate now.
My tank is in the main area of our in home daycare, so placeing something like egg crate on it would look kinda tacky in my opinion, and anything else I thought of for a top would most likely increase my tank tempature, and decrease my lighting.
So hopefully he is comfortable enough in the tank to stay there, I just make sure I feed him regularly, and that nothing disturbs his home too much. Which means I will have to research anything else I add to it.

I had a yellowhead in my 150 for years and then it jumped out one night. I actually found it alive and put it back but it died the next day.
I have a cover on that tank but theres about an inch in the back and thats where it jumped out.
same thing in my 55 with a dusky jawfish.
They were happy for a long time and then jumped out.
I did have other fish and such with them in both tanks so maybe something disturbed them in the night which is when they like to jump out for some reason.
Just wanted to warn you as Ive always loved jawfish to.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the warning. I read the same warning somewhere else too. I just hope it doesn't happen, suicidal fish, what will they think of next?

I have small broken pieces of rock and shells (1/4"-2" size) and my yellow head jaw loves building his "door" with the rocks. At night, he takes one rocks and "shuts" his door so no one can get in. Then when the lights come on, he "opens" the door by moving the rock away.
You are very right about their personality. They are probably my very very favorite fish.

This jawfish was donated to us with his tank (75 gallon). I don't know if you ever saw the pics, but around his hole...we found about 5 right around his burrows that were all well over 18" long and apparently they got along fine! ........go figure
