Who knows anything about this ad I keep seeing for Freedom FIlter? It is a skimmer, filter all in one powered by a maxi-jet.

I have checked out this units design, it's does skim. But the area where the contact time takes place is very small, making the skimming limited.
If they were to bring the tube down further it would increase the contact time.

If you look at the venturi numbered 3 it could be positioned into the center of the skimmer tube after the tube has been increased in length.
Also the pad locations look like the entire inner workings of the filter must be removed to perform maintenance.

Here is a look down view of the filter I designed, the center is where the pad is for easy removal , under the pad is where the chemical media and bio media is located.
This unit did 800 gph total and 150 gph on the skimming. You can see the skimmers on both sides and the main returns. The four large siphon tubes in the middle delivered the water to the filter. This filter is maintaining two 50 gallon reef tanks side by side. Please note this filter is no longer in production.
