In my tank are: a pearly jaw fish, dragon goby, and a mandarin fish. Purple mushrooms, and used to be 5 blue leg hermits...before the addition of the goby, somthing sucked the crab from his shell, stole the shell, and left him for dead in the center of the sand, without eating him....I thought it was odd, maybe he outgrew his shell..I replaced him with 4 more, and within 3 days, it has happened again...same exact place, about 3 inches in front of where the jawfish has made his cave under live rock...is it possible he is stealing the shells for his house decor and leaving the crabs to die?? I can't figure it out; maybe one of you all can for me??

could it be just the molting or sheding of the hermit , after they molt and leave the old shin they tend to hind deep in their shells while their new exposed shin harden?
