Is this guy reef safe???? Please let me know as he is in a holding cell!!

Might be some kind of pistol shrimp with that big right claw...but I'm not sure.

It looks like a mantis srimp. From what i have heard they are not. I also heard that with that claw they can bust the glass in a smaller aquarium.

doesn't look like a mantis, but I would put my money on "not reef safe" regardless.

It is NOT a mantis. It IS a pistol shrimp.

IMO Pistol Shrimp, and an entertaining addition to the reef. Be aware he will dig and "klepto" any small frags or unattached mushrooms etc and pull them into his burrow. But I love mine depite his bad habits and his "shooting" me anytime I get to close while rearranging.

He is Pistol shirmp. Good reef safe shrimp. They love to dig!

Trust me you'll get used to the noise, I dont even notice it anymore unless he really gets upset at something then its continuous because mine has two pistols rather than the standard one.

Mine is so small you can't even hear the noise. I am sure I won't mind though. I am used to the noisy aquapod fan so that can't be so bad right?

Yup its a pistol and yes you will get used to the popping noise that they make.

I have been reef keeping for quite awhile and I still am a novice ... I just can't seem to learn it all - that's my joy in this, it just never ends with the neat surprizes!!
Thanks for guessing anyhow .... I didn't know for sure either.
