is this pump any good as a return pump for my 40 gal. breeder?
via aqua (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=8164&N=2004+113041)
i would get the 2300 one, or whatever the 600gph one is...The overflow is a 600 gph overflow, so after all the head loss, that would be less than the overflow, which is what i want, correct?
anyways, why would this be a bad pump?
thanks

Don't be cheap get a mag 7 or a quiet 1 pump. IMO i think its a little loud for my taste, but then again i have tried only 1 pump for my return.
I have the 1300 and its got about a 4 feet overhead. makes a humming sound, but i guess u will get use to it. i dont like the noise because it is in my room and i need sleep! lol

ya the tank is in the living room, and i know that when i had the bubblers on the tank for freshwater they were always kinda noisy, but i put them in the stand and it seemed to quiet it a little..plus this pump being under water would probably help noise a little bit...also, it gets pretty noisy in my living room (tv always on...)so i prolly wouldnt even notice it..
so is the noise all thats bad about it? i'm hoping that since i'm getting the next one up w/the same amount of head as you that it wouldnt be as bad (more power..doesnt work as hard...or whatever lol)
right now i dont have the money to get a mag or quietone otherwise i would lol.
thanks for the input!
any more would be great too tho!

I've been running the 4900 model in my sump for almost 3 years mow. I also use the 480 for my top-off water.
The pumps are still going strong.

My pump is underwater too. Try to save money and get a good pump. Its basically the life of your tank when you add a sump. This is where my tank gets most of its flow.

but that pump would work on either a 600 gph overflow, or a 900 gph overflow right? the overflow should only go as fast as the pump, correct? the 900 one is a double drain thing tho, so i dont think i'd do that one...
i think i'll get the 600 gph overflow and this pump...that way, after the head loss it would be less than the overflow right?

i would skip the via aqua. They are loud and handle head pressure very poorly.
I would go with a mag or eheim. Eheim preferably if you are willing to spend the money.
