I bought two emerald for my 75 when I saw that stuff in my tank. They avoided it like the plague, but they are suppose to eat it.

I heard they will eat the grape algae, so I purchsed one. He has not eaten in two months I have had him.

You might be thinking of bubble agae. Mine eats it whenever some pops up.

If it's bubble algea, mine eats it sometimes, but would rather eat hair algea. Go fig.

I have one that eats the brown encrusting algea but when he eats he removes little pices of the rock also so I have many "white" spots on a few rocks.

Most emeralds eat at night, I believe they are nocturnal?

Mine steals the food from my sun coral mostly LOL
Mine won't touch hair algea and apparantly hasn't found the two pieces of bubble algea cause they've not been touched in many months.

That's interesting that corraline was eaten by an emerald. That's a first for me!!

Do they prefer groups? Is it ok to put in 1? I was looking at these and porcelain crabs (i know, they don't do the same thing) and one set recommended the porcelain ones have a buddy.

I have 2 emerald crabs, the larger one is out and about all day and night eating.. is not shy at all, the other one is smaller and only see him maybe once a day, seems to hide a little more during the day, same with my peppermint shrimp, always hiding during the day.

I purposely keep calurpia because of the seahorses, my emerald doesn't touch it. He does do an OK job on bubble algae though.
